No account is required. Shady Way does not create a behavioral profile, sell personal data, or store trip history in an application database.
Information used to plan a trip
You may enter an origin, destination and departure time. If you tap “Use current location,” the app requests foreground location access and uses that coordinate once as the origin. Manual search remains available if you deny permission.
Place queries and trip coordinates are sent through Shady Way’s stateless planning service to calculate suggestions, a road route and forecast context. Request bodies and coordinates are not intentionally written to application logs or retained as trip history.
Service providers
- Mapbox processes place searches, map display and road routes. Mapbox privacy policy.
- Visual Crossing processes sampled route coordinates and times when forecast context is available. Visual Crossing privacy policy.
- Vercel hosts the web app and stateless API and may process standard network metadata needed to operate and secure the service. Vercel privacy policy.
- RevenueCat processes purchase and restore transactions so the app can provide Pro access. RevenueCat privacy policy.
Optional analytics and advertising
Anonymous product analytics are off unless you explicitly allow them in the app. If allowed, Shady Way sends only an installation-scoped identifier and a small allowlist of product events (for example, a route calculation or purchase screen result) to PostHog EU. It does not send route coordinates, route points, place searches, live location, replay data or autocapture.
The free tier may show Google AdMob banner and interstitial ads. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent message is shown before ads are requested. On iOS, Shady Way asks for App Tracking Transparency permission after the consent step; if you decline, any requested ads are configured as non-personalized. Google privacy policy.
Operational data
The service may use short-lived rate-limit counters and sanitized operational events such as endpoint status, latency and provider error class. Shady Way does not intentionally attach trip coordinates or search text to these events.
On-device data and reminders
Your selected language, visual theme and accessibility preferences may be stored locally on your device. If you explicitly save a trip, its origin, destination, departure time, preference and recommended side are stored only on that device so the app can show it again. If you allow notifications, the app schedules local 24-hour and 2-hour departure reminders. Deleting a saved trip cancels its pending reminders. You can remove all local data by deleting the app.
Sharing and deletion
A shared trip link contains the coordinates, departure time and relevant preferences needed to reproduce the plan. Share it only with people you trust. Shady Way has no account or server-side trip-history database to delete; local preferences can be removed as described above.
Children and changes
Shady Way is a general travel utility and is not directed to children under 13. Material policy changes will be published on this page with a new effective date.
